Terms of Service
Last updated: 12 April 2026
By using SudoParent, you agree to these terms. Please read them carefully.
SudoParent is a parental control tool, not a surveillance product. It is designed to be installed by parents or legal guardians on devices belonging to their minor children. You must have legal authority over any device on which you install the child agent.
What SudoParent does
SudoParent monitors app usage on a child's Android device and enforces time limits and app restrictions set by a parent. It consists of two modes within a single app:
- Parent mode: A dashboard for viewing usage data and configuring rules.
- Child mode: A background agent that enforces rules and reports usage data.
SudoParent does not monitor message content, calls, browsing history, location, or any personal communications.
Your responsibilities
- Legal authority: You must be the parent or legal guardian of any child whose device you manage with SudoParent.
- Inform your child: We recommend discussing with your child that SudoParent is installed and what it does. Transparency builds trust.
- Secure your account: You are responsible for keeping your parent account credentials secure.
- Appropriate use: Do not use SudoParent to monitor adults, employees, or anyone without their knowledge and consent (where legally required).
Device permissions
The child agent requires several system permissions to function (Accessibility Service, Device Admin, Usage Access, Display Over Other Apps). These permissions are powerful and are used solely for parental control enforcement. Misuse of these permissions for purposes other than parental control is prohibited.
Account and data
- A parent account requires a valid email address and password.
- Child devices are paired to a parent account via a pairing code.
- You can unpair a child device or delete your account at any time.
- Deleting your account removes all associated data from our servers.
Service availability
SudoParent relies on Firebase services for data sync and authentication. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. The child agent continues enforcing cached rules when offline.
- Android OS updates may affect the agent's ability to function — permission re-grants may be required.
- We may update the app to maintain compatibility with new Android versions.
- The service is provided free of charge and may introduce paid tiers in the future.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SudoParent and its developers shall not be liable for any damages arising from:
- Failure to block or restrict an app due to OS limitations or bugs
- Missed notifications or delayed rule enforcement
- Circumvention of controls by the child
- Loss of usage data
- Service interruptions
You use SudoParent at your own risk. The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. SudoParent is a tool to assist parenting, not a replacement for it.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. Continued use of SudoParent after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa.
